The Dallas Cowboys are a professional NFL team based in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas metropolitan area. The Cowboys compete in the NFL as a member of the Eastern Division of the National Conference. The team is based in Frisco, Texas, and plays its home games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which opened for the 2009 season. The stadium took its current name before the 2013 season.

The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The Cowboys' run of 190 regular and sold-out playoff games began in 2002 and is the NFL's largest run of sold-out games. The franchise has made it to the Super Bowl eight times, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos for the second highest number of Super Bowl appearances in history, just behind the New England Patriots' record of eleven Super Bowl appearances. This has also corresponded to eight NFC championships, the most in the NFC. The Cowboys have won five of those Super Bowl appearances, tying them with their NFC rivals, the San Francisco 49ers and the Patriots in the AFC. The Cowboys are the only NFL team to record 20 consecutive winning seasons (over .500) (1966-85), in which they only missed the playoffs twice (1974 and 1984), an NFL record that remains unchallenged.

In 2015, the Dallas Cowboys became the first sports team valued at $4 billion, making it the most valuable sports team in the world, according to Forbes. The Cowboys also generated $620 million in revenue in 2014, a record for a U.S. sports team. In 2018 they also became the NFL's first franchise valued at $5 billion, making them the NFL's most valuable team for the 12th consecutive year, according to Forbes.
