The Houston Texans are a professional NFL team based in Houston, Texas. The Texans compete in the NFL as a member of the Southern Division of the American Conference. The team plays its home games at the NRG stadium.

The club first played in 2002 as an expansion team, making them the youngest franchise currently competing in the NFL. The Texans replaced the city's previous franchise, the Houston Oilers, who moved to Nashville, Tennessee and are now known as the Tennessee Titans. The majority owner of the team is Bob McNair.

While the team struggled mainly in the 2000s, they would find success in the 2011 season after securing their first place in the playoffs and winning their first AFC division championship. The Texans won four more AFC South championships in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2019. To date, the Texans are the only NFL franchise that has never played a conference championship game.

At the end of the 2017 season, the Texans' overall record of wins and losses from the regular season was 110-146 (.430). The Texans had their 100th regular season win when they defeated the Tennessee Titans on October 2, 2016. The Texans reached their best record in the 2012 season, finishing 12-4. The team's worst seasons on record are 2-14, both in 2005 and 2013. More recently, the Texans finished 4-12 in 2017, in fourth place in the AFC South and ending their run of two consecutive division titles.

The Texans are 3-4 (.429) in the playoff games. The Texans' four playoff berths were the result of winning the AFC Southern Division championship. In 2016, this trend continued when the Texans defeated the Oakland Raiders 27-14 in a home Wild Card game, but then were eliminated by the eventual Super Bowl LI champion New England Patriots 34-16 in the Divisional Round the following weekend.

The Houston Texans have only one member in the NFL Hall of Fame.
